Our Approaches

Improving Educational Outcomes

We believe that all primary and secondary school students should have access to the resources and tools they need to succeed in school. This includes: appropriate infrastructure such as classrooms, desks and chairs, bathrooms, and running water; balanced daily nutritional intakes; a school environment free of gender-based violence; well-trained and enthusiastic teachers; school books and stationery; and ongoing mentoring and support.

The best way to support students’ academic success is to:

  • Conduct individualized educational assessments to determine students’ learning needs and styles

  • Facilitate the provision of inclusive education for all students, including students with disabilities

  • Ensure students finish primary school and have a clear plan for transitioning to secondary school.

Advancing Economic Power

We believe that women and youth come into their economic power when they have the support, collaboration, and capital to advance their businesses and social enterprises. The most effective ways of supporting young entrepreneurs is to:

• Train them to expand business plans

• Advise them on how to use Artificial Intelligence tools, digital marketing, and e-commerce

• Provide hands-on coaching from trusted national and international business leaders

• Develop regional peer-to-peer support networks

• Provide classes on wellness, leadership confidence, gender equality, and resilience

• Ensure they have access to child and elder care and/or discounted credits for future use

• Provide access to an Impact Fund for program graduates

Improving Access to
Quality Health Services

Our approach ensures that women, girls, and their families have equitable access to quality health care across all life stages. We seek to strengthen community health systems to deliver essential maternal and child health services, safe childbirth, and vital vaccines, while expanding access to reproductive health care and information. Working with women-led local partners, we seek to bring mobile and community-based services to underserved areas and promote health education, prevention, and early intervention.

We also advocate for integrated services for survivors of gender-based violence and expand access to HIV and STI prevention, care, and treatment. Our approach is grounded in dignity, inclusion, and women’s leadership—creating safe, stigma-free spaces where women can seek care and advocate for their health and rights.

Enhancing Food Security and Nutrition

Our approach to enhancing food security and nutrition in Africa focuses on empowering women and local communities to sustainably improve their own access to nutritious food. Through partnerships with strong, women-led organizations, Women Rising strengthens local food systems by supporting smallholder farmers, cooperatives, and women entrepreneurs in agriculture and food processing.

The organization promotes climate-resilient farming practices, community gardens, re-seeding land, equitable access to markets and finance, and community savings groups that enable investment in local production. By investing in local capacity and equitable food systems, Women Rising advances communities’ ability to achieve lasting food security and better nutrition for all.
